One of our favourite albums of 2013 - we can't stop playing it in the shop.
To help celebrate their 40th year as a recoding group we would like to take you back to the third album from legendary Celtic rockers Runrig. Some great songs, again written by Rory and Calum MacDonald. With classic songs 'An Toll dubh' and 'Recovery' why not take yourself back in time and get a copy of this memorable album.

2012 release from Skye-based musical genius, Blair Douglas, who has assembled an impressive array of musicians and singers for his new release Leanaidh Mi (I wil follow). Recorded in Nashville and Scotland, the album contains 13 original tracks - 6 Gaelic songs and 7 instrumentals including a Bluegrass version of Blair's timeless classic, Kate Martin's Waltz.
With a Celtic and Bluegrass feel, Blair's orignal songs are sung by Cathie Ann MacPhee, Kathleen MacInnes, Kathleen Graham and Ian Smith, with Scottish-based instrumentalists Gordon Gunn (fiddle), Angus MacKenzie (pipes) and Phil Anderson (acoustic guitar). Using modern technology, Blair has also been able to utilise the considerable talents of Nashville-based musicians Bryan Sutton (acoustic guitar/banjo/mandolin), Wanda Vick (fiddle/dobro/mandolin/banjo), Mark Burchfield (basses), Bob Mater (drums) and the legendary Charlie McCoy (harmonica).
It is little wonder that when Disney's Pixar were searching for the perfect, authentic singing voice to feature in their Scottish Folk tale “Brave”, their new animated film set in the ancient highlands of Scotland, their research led them to one of the Western Isles’ true contemporary treasures - Julie Fowlis. Julie began her music career as a member of Dochas before releasing this, her first solo album. Having won the Horizon award for best newcomer at the BBC folk awards she has gone on to become by far the most popular gaelic female vocalist of the last few years.
Heavily influenced by her Uist upbringing this album contains mostly songs from that area which Julie has re-worked into a more contemporary setting with great effect. Her beautiful, clear voice is a joy to listen to.
Guest musicians include Eamon Doorley, John Doyle, Kris Drever, Allan Henderson, Ingrid Henderson, John McCusker, Iain MacDonald, Martin O Neill, Ross Martin and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh.
An absolute classic album from Blair featuring many of his most well known compositions. Beatifully arranged, performed and produced this is an album that everyone should have in their collection. Blair continues to break ground in his interpretation of Gaelic and traditional music.
Anne from Trotternish on the Isle of Skye has been respected for many years as a gaelic singer and this is her first release. The Album is a result of a lifetime's experience of Gaelic song, evolving with the help of some of the West Coast's finest musicians -
Iain MacDonald - highland pipes, small pipes, flute, concertina
Malcolm Jones - electric, acoustic and synth guitars, bass, mandolin
Iain MacFarlane - Fiddle
Ingrid Henderson - Keyboards
James Mackintosh - Percussion
Kenneth and Angus Mackenzie from Mabou, Cape Breton Island have been brought up steeped in the tradition of pipes and fiddle. Their family tree traces back to roots in South Uist and Lochaber.
This CD highlights both their exceptional talent as musicians and the influences on their music from both sides of the Atlantic.
"For me this is as good as it gets" - Iain MacDonald.
A stunning debut album from 3 of the Highlands most talented young musicians. Containing a great mix of tunes old and new, thoughtfully arranged and even including a wee touch of Highland humour. Already a big favourite in Skye Music Shop !
This is Skye fiddler Ronan Martin's stunning debut CD. Recorded as live as possible featuring Ronan on fiddle and Jonny Hardie(Old Blind Dogs) on guitar this album has a wonderful warm feel to it. A great selection of tunes played with skill and feeling. The album includes many bagpipe tunes and Gaelic songs from the tradition and there are extensive sleeve notes containing stories and background information. A Skye Music Shop Favourite !
A New line up, a new studio CD, and reaching a new level for Skye's finest. It has been a long 4 year wait since the previous studio music extravaganza, "What Men Deserve To Lose", but a wait that has proved to be very worthwhile. "Dust" is a collection of new tunes, expertly woven into a journey of high's and low's that is incredibly infectious. From the chilled out and beautiful "Fishing at Orbost" to the pumping sounds of "The Naughty Step", this is an album we just can't keep off the player in Skye Music Shop !
