In 1773 James Boswell (1740 1795) and Samuel Johnson (1709 1784) set off for a tour of the highlands of Scotland lasting 83 days. Almost half of the time was spent on the Isle of Skye, they crossed to Skye on 2nd September and finally left the island on 3rd October. During this time Boswell & Johnson were visiting the Island of Raasay between 8th and 12th September.
