Calumís road, all 3.2 km of it, was planned and built by one man Ė Calum MacLeod. Calum gave up trying to get the Council to provide an extension to the existing road up to his home, he bought a book on road-making (for 3s Ė 15p) and did the work himself. It took eight years, 11 wheelbarrows and 60 pairs of boots. Calum is honored by a memorial cairn after he died in 1988.
